Fox Point

Located east of downtown Providence, Fox Point is a tightly clustered residential neighborhood that remains home to a large portion of Providence's Portuguese population. Fox Point's boundaries are the Providence and Seekonk rivers to the east, west, and south; Interstate 195 to the south; and the College Hill neighborhood, to the north.One of the oldest neighborhoods in Providence, Fox Point was the historic area of settlement for Portuguese immigrants to the city; Fox Point was an industrial center, particularly because of the harbor along the Fox Point waterfront, in the early nineteenth century. Today Fox Point is still a notable attraction for visitors looking to shop and dine on Wickenden Street. It is a neighborhood where many Brown and Rhode Island School of Design students rent homes; additionally many of the homes in the neighborhood have been protected through neighborhood preservation initiatives.
