Federal Hill

Located at the center of Providence, Federal Hill is bounded by Westminster Street to the south, the Amtrak railroad tracks and Route 6 at the foot of the hill to the west and north, and Interstate 95 to the east. Though the area today is more diverse, Federal Hill still retains its status as the traditional center for the city's Italian-American community. Providence's annual Columbus Day parade marches down Atwells Avenue. Historically a working class Irish neighborhood, Federal Hill became the center of living and working for Italian immigrants to Rhode Island in the second wave of immigration following World War I. This Little Italy" of Rhode Island remains a landmark destination for visitors looking for a taste of the city's culture and history."
